CONQUEST SERVICES
Nestled in the Somerset countryside and overlooked by the Quantock hills our Centre provides an inclusive environment which welcomes the whole community, where all are equal, no judgements are made and space is given for possibility to flourish.
Over the last few years, Conquest Centre has evolved from a traditional Disabled Riding Centre to become a comprehensive and progressive Therapy Centre providing invaluable support to people of all ages and abilities in the local community.
Our specialism is still working with our herd of exceptional therapy horses, but to provide us with greater flexibility in our work we have added a selection of smaller animals to our ‘menagerie’ (for example: donkeys, goats, chickens, turkeys and guinea pigs) so we are able to offer broader scope in our range of therapies to help more people.
Our highly skilled Practitioners are able to work dynamically with clients to offer the appropriate therapy for that individual, at that time. For some, it is riding a horse for the physical or physiotherapy benefits the movement of the horse offers (for example: gently manipulating tired or stiff joints or enjoying ‘peaceful time’ and the warmth and softness of being ‘at one’ with another sentient being) whilst for others it is simply working ‘with’ an animal; grooming a horse, cuddling a donkey, clicker training a chicken or jumping about an obstacle course with a happy and cheeky goat!
Age is not a limiter to the type of sessions we offer either. Our clients range in age from 2 to 78 and each and every one has individual needs that can change from week to week. We want to continue to be client centred in our approach and have resisted developing ‘programmes’ for that reason. We want to be totally flexible and not prescribed by ‘what comes next on the schedule’.
